Frederick Ralph Smith was born at home in Grove City, Ohio on September 27, 1941, the son of Motice Adams and Mary Inez Curnutte Smith.

Fred graduated from Grove City High School in 1959. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1970 from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio and his Master of Business degree from Ashland College in Ashland, Ohio in 1987. During his career, Fred worked for Rural Electric Cooperatives in Ohio, Oklahoma and Florida. In 2003, he retired from the Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative in Live Oak, Florida as their Director of Finance.

Fred was a generous man with his time and talents. He was a long-time member of the Church of Christ, the Lion’s Club and the Rotary. He loved all types of sports and was an enthusiastic fan of “The Ohio State”.

He was preceded in death by father Motice Adams Smith and mother Mary Inez Curnutte Smith in 1989, by three children Frederick Ralph Jr.in 1988, Melissa Ann Smith in 2015, and Michael Vincent Smith in 2017, and by one sister Mary Edna Pritchard.

His survivors include wife Kathleen Marie (Ewert) Smith of Lake City, Florida and children Gregory Todd Smith of Springfield, Ohio; Kimberli Faye Vogel of Chicago, Illinois; Kandee Kae Barnes of Canyon, Texas; Brandon Lewis Nix of Hugoton, Kansas. He is also survived by siblings John Smith of Palm Harbor, Florida; Dennis Smith of Fort Myers, Florida; Hope Bunting of Hilliard, Ohio; and Faye Springs of Smyrna, Tennessee, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other close family and friends.

Fred R. Smith, 75, passed away June 28, 2017 at Baptist St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free;
I'm following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard him call;
I turned my back and left it all.


I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way; I found that place at the close of day.


If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss.


Be not burdened with times of sorrow;
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much;
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.


Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me;
God wanted me now, He set me free.
