A Service of Remembrance for Mrs Freida Hartenstein, age 81, of Beverly Hills, Florida, will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Congregation Beth Shalom, Beverly Hills, Florida. Interment will take place at Fero Memorial Gardens, Beverly Hills, Florida. Freida was born on January 18, 1937 in the Bronx, New York to the late Louis and Rachel (Lefkowitz) Charof. She passed away on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 13, 2018. Freida was a homemaker as well as an Insurance Secretary. In 1988 she and her husband Gilbert moved to Beverly Hills from Levittown, New York. Freida enjoyed baking, canning, needle point, line dancing at the Beverly Hills Rec Hall, sewing and was an avid gardener of house plants. She was a member of the Congregation Beth Shalom, Beverly Hills and has served as a Sender of greetings and condolences, choir member and caller. In addition, she was a member of The Sisterhood of the Temple. Freida was a caller for Skill bank, former collector for The Diabetes Association and was a member of the Fishing Club, Exercise Club and Civic Association all of Beverly Hills. Mrs. Hartenstein was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gil Hartenstein of Beverly Hills, FL, a son, Gary Hartenstein of Citrus County, a daughter, Sharon Lehrer and her husband Joseph of Oak Park, CA, a grandson, Andrew Hartenstein, a granddaughter, Allie Lehrer, 2 sisters, Mimi Watnik of Sarasota, FL and Yetta Cohen of Lincoln Park, New Jersey and a sister-in-law, Barbara Gerard of New York City, NY. Freida was also preceded in death by her dogs and loving companions, Duchess, Shaynah and Tippy. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beverly Hills Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes.
